Deltasia Park

This aerial photograph of Deltasia Park was probably taken around 1965 showing the park just prior to its opening to the public in 1967. The image was actually a black and white photo that was then hand coloured after it was printed. Russ Warris spent several days restoring the original print and further enhancing the colours.

You can download an 8 X 10 printable version of this image from here. The original image was actually about 18″ X 24″, but to scan it that large would generate a file that would be very hard to manage.

I am planning on writing a more detailed page about the history of Deltasia Park, so check back from time to time to see if I have it done yet.

  3. Hello,

I was a childhood friend of Mr. Kelsey’s son, Bill. I still have one of his photographs of myself, and memories of a couple of visits to Deltasia park. There was a small banana monkey in a cage that would bite your finger. Bill was always so supportive, emotionally present, and legitimately interested in the experience of children. He showed me how his camera worked. A neat little brownie with a red light, and a viewfinder, that to this day is one of the first technical mysteries of modernity that I still find stretches the imagination, or at the very least, refines the real.

If Bill the younger is associated with this site, or can be contacted through the webmaster, I would really like to regain modest social contact again. If only to pass on my deepest gratitude and humane regard.

    Yours very truly,
    Joseph Laevens MA
